I wrote this in late 2019 with Duncan in his London studio, the song came together in such an easy and natural way, at the time I was reading Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel 'The Master and Margarita' (Now one of my favourite books) where a mischievous man plays devilish tricks on the population of Moscow, the book creates this sinister yet playful atmosphere that I couldn't wait to use as inspiration for a song.

I hadn't mentioned the book to Duncan but as soon as we started jamming he came up with this eerie piano riff that was perfect to write 'Higher Plain' too. We ended up writing most of the song in one late night session.
